5B Artist Program

5B Nolan Park, Governors Island, NY, 10004, USA

5B Artist Program

You are invited to join a community of theater artists in residence on Governors Island this summer. As a 5B Artist, you get access to rehearsal space on Governors Island at a pay-what-you-can rate. You will be part of The SuperGeographics’ Organization in Residence time at House 5B in Nolan Park.

This is the first summer we have offered this program, and your feedback will help us shape it for possible future years of making theater in community and solidarity with other independent artists.

5B artists book the entire house, which includes two rehearsal rooms, a porch, and a shared library. Other artists may be working quietly in the library while you rehearse. We are currently outfitting a meeting/conference room space and expect it to be available later in the summer.

About The SuperGeographics

About the SuperGeographics: The SuperGeographics create bold new works that exchange images and ideas, challenge form, and build community across cultures. This means that we pull from lots of sources, different art and theater forms from around the world, historical research, pop culture across cultures, and stuff we make up. We create plays for theater and live audiences that are highly athletic, textually bold, and intellectually rigorous. This is possible through collaboration with artists & thinkers from disparate cultures and practices including South America, Oceania, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Our 2025 Governors Island residency allows us to bring this work together in a single space, offering audiences open access to our rehearsals, workshop, artist discussions, and performances.

Our house, 5B, is in Nolan Park on Governors Island. The house is a 10 minute walk from Soissons Landing (GI Ferry runs every 30 minutes from lower Manhattan and is $5 roundtrip or free on weekends before 11 AM) or Yankee pier (NYC Ferry runs hourly from Brooklyn until 5 PM, $2.90 each way).

The island is open every day from 7 AM - 9:30 PM. The last ferry off the island is at 10PM, and sleeping on the island is not allowed.

You can reach the house by walking on a paved road from the ferry or can cut across a flat, grassy lawn. Citibikes are also often available near the ferry terminal.

To enter the house, you must walk up four steps to the porch and one flight of stairs if you’re using the upstairs studio. We will provide a key code to you.

Plumbing and water in the house is not functional; bathroom trailers or indoor restrooms are available a short walk away from the house. Bathrooms include at least one all-gender stall and are wheelchair accessible.

Water fountains are available around the island. AC is not currently available in the house, but the house is quite cool– bring warm layers.

WiFi is available on the island and in the house, but cell service is spotty.
